Hyperion to showcase new hard and super-hard materials and first-of-its-kind service at IMTS
WORTHINGTON, Ohio — Hyperion Materials & Technologies, a leading global materials science company that specializes in developing advanced hard and super-hard materials, will highlight a range of new products and services to improve toolmaking productivity and precision at IMTS 2022, September 12 to 17 in Chicago.
These new offerings include:
- Grade AM110™, an award-winning grade of tungsten carbide for rod blanks, specially engineered for machining superalloys like INCONEL®
- An enhanced offering of synthetic diamond and cubic boron nitride (CBN) products
- Precision Solutions by Hyperion®, a new business that works with customers directly to design and produce finished, precision components made from hard and super-hard materials
“Materials science innovation, technical expertise and precision manufacturing are at the heart of what we do at Hyperion, and IMTS gives us the opportunity to share that with those looking to develop longer lasting and more accurate machine tool components,” said Ron Voigt, Chief Executive Officer of Hyperion. “We are looking forward to showcasing our advancements in hard materials and manufacturing technology, including grade AM110 carbide, at IMTS.”
Grade AM110 tungsten carbide grade lasts up to 35 percent longer when machining superalloys
Machining superalloys such as INCONEL is highly challenging due to intense heat and pressure on the tooling. Hyperion’s AM110 grade of carbide was specially engineered to balance and optimize the hardness, toughness and galling resistance required for tooling used in machining superalloys.
Testing has demonstrated that end milling tools made from grade AM110 last 35 percent longer on INCONEL workpieces than conventional tungsten carbide grades, delivering more predictable results with fewer cutting edge breaks.
Hyperion grade AM110 carbide rods are part of the company’s application-specific series of rod blanks. The primary markets for grade AM110 rods are aerospace and food preparation. They are available in a variety of dimensions and finishes and as sintered or ground to ISO h5 or h6 tolerances.
Recent acquisition enhances Hyperion’s offering of diamond and CBN products
Hyperion expanded its offering of synthetic and industrial diamond and CBN products in August with the acquisition of Premium Diamond Solutions SA, a European distributor of superabrasive materials.
The transaction expands Hyperion’s portfolio of diamond and CBN mesh and micron powders, compounds and slurries, as well as enhances its superabrasives application expertise.
This is the latest of seven acquisitions during the past two and a half years as Hyperion expands its product portfolio and services for customers globally.
Precision Solutions by Hyperion offers end-to-end solution for precision-manufactured products
Launched in July, Precision Solutions by Hyperion is a first-of-its-kind business capable of creating highly specialized and precise tungsten carbide, industrial diamond, ceramic, high-speed steel and CBN products, managing the entire process from raw material selection to mass production of finished components.
Leveraging the advanced, integrated capabilities of Hyperion and several of its recently acquired companies, Precision Solutions focuses on incredibly intricate, precision parts for the energy, electronics, medical and other industries where small sizes, tight tolerances and complex geometries play a significant role.
Company leaders and experts in all these product areas will be available throughout IMTS at booth 432324 in the West building.
