Plungers
Hyperion Materials & Technologies manufactures high-performance plungers and stepped cylinders in cemented carbide, ceramics, and steel. Components are available in stepped and non-stepped configurations, with or without center ends. Hyperion partners closely with customers to optimize plunger design for demanding wear-part applications across pumps, compressors, and ultra-high-pressure waterjet systems.
With decades of experience supporting precision fluid-handling applications, Hyperion manufactures tungsten carbide plungers, ceramic plungers, and steel plungers engineered for exceptional wear resistance, dimensional stability, and surface finish performance in demanding operating environments.
Why Choose Hyperion’s Plungers?
Hyperion plungers are engineered for long service life in abrasive, high‑pressure, and high‑duty operating conditions. By using monolithic materials rather than surface coatings, Hyperion plungers help eliminate coating‑related failure modes while delivering excellent wear and corrosion resistance. Precision tolerances, optimized geometries, and fine surface finishes contribute to reduced friction, lower wear rates, and extended component life, supporting stable performance and consistent system efficiency in critical pump and compressor applications.
Hyperion plungers are also widely used in high-pressure waterjet applications where precision tolerances and ultra-fine surface finishes are critical to system performance and component life. Advanced grinding and precision lapping capabilities enable exceptionally smooth surfaces that help reduce wear, improve sealing performance, and extend service intervals in abrasive waterjet operating environments.
Materials: Carbide, Ceramic & Steel
Tungsten Carbide Plungers
Designed for extreme wear resistance, high stiffness, and excellent dimensional stability, tungsten carbide plungers are suitable for the most demanding pump, compressor, and waterjet applications where abrasive media, high pressure, or corrosive environments are present.
Hyperion tungsten carbide plungers are manufactured with tight dimensional tolerances and precision surface finishes to support long wear life and reliable sealing performance in ultra-high-pressure systems. These plungers are commonly used in waterjet intensifier pumps and other critical fluid-handling equipment requiring maximum durability and precision.
Ceramic Plungers
Ceramic plungers are ideal for applications requiring chemical resistance, low friction, and high surface finish quality. Ceramic materials provide strong performance in corrosive or low-lubrication environments while supporting extended service intervals.
For waterjet applications, ceramic plungers offer excellent wear resistance and smooth surface characteristics that help improve sealing efficiency and reduce replacement frequency in high-pressure operating conditions.
Steel Plungers
A robust and cost‑effective option for moderate wear environments. Steel plungers provide toughness and versatility for a wide variety of pump and compressor systems.
Waterjet Plungers & Components
Hyperion manufactures precision waterjet plungers and related components for ultra-high-pressure waterjet systems. Tight tolerances and fine surface finishes help improve wear life, sealing performance, and system reliability in demanding operating environments.
Available materials include tungsten carbide, ceramics, and steel depending on application requirements. Hyperion also provides precision grinding and lapping capabilities for waterjet plungers and other critical fluid-handling components.
