U-Series PCD

Process EDM and EDG faster to improve the efficiency of fabrication and regrinding in machining applications, maximizing tool longevity and cost savings.

U-Series PCD is designed for tools used in machining wood and wood-like materials, stone, concrete, cement board, and other difficult-to-machine workpieces. U-Series is an excellent choice for optimizing costs without sacrificing reliability in machining applications where competitiveness and consistency are critical.

Hyperion Materials & Technologies offers a U-Series PCD portfolio designed with improved fabrication ease and tool handling in mind. This portfolio features multiple grades with tungsten carbide within the PCD layer (see "WC" grades.) The addition of tungsten carbide enables toolmakers to electric discharge machine (EDM) and electric discharge grind (EDG) faster, resulting in more efficient fabrication and regrinding, thereby maximizing tool longevity and cost savings.

U-Series PCD Applications

U-Series PCD is designed for woodworking, stone machining, and other nonferrous and nonmetallic materials in various applications. It offers toolmakers a cost-competitive edge for applications where tool economics are critical. U-Series PCD offers toolmakers a higher level of quality consistency than elsewhere.

PCD is used in woodworking tools such as saw blades, routers, and compression cutters. It enables toolmakers to machine wood, medium-density fiberboard (MDF), melamine, laminates, and particleboard effortlessly, allowing for higher feed rates and longer tool life than carbide tools, resulting in faster and cleaner cuts.

In stone machining, PCD is used in tools such as saw blades, drills, and milling cutters to cut through various workpieces, including concrete, cement board, and granite. U-Series PCD offers improved wear resistance, enabling higher cutting speeds and achieving precise cuts, thereby reducing downtime and maximizing output.

The exceptional mechanical properties of U-Series PCD make it an optimal choice for carbon-fiber-reinforced polymers (CFRP), acrylics, glass, and other nonferrous materials.

Frequently Asked Questions about U-Series PCD

What is U-Series PCD?

U-Series PCD is a cost-effective product line of polycrystalline diamond blanks used in utility machining applications, such as woodworking, stone, concrete, and other nonmetallic and nonferrous materials. It offers toolmakers a cost-competitive edge, improved tool fabrication ease, and consistent performance for machining applications where competitiveness and consistency are critical.

Is U-Series PCD different from P-Series and Compax®?

U-Series PCD is another line of polycrystalline diamond products, different from P-Series and Compax®. It is a cost-effective option that allows toolmakers to deliver consistent and reliable performance while giving them a cost-competitive edge.

Is there a wide range of PCD grades and sizes offered for different applications?

The U-Series PCD line includes various grades and dimensional configurations. The product range includes grades with average grain sizes from 5 to 25 microns and a 62mm usable diameter. The products are available as full discs or cut tips in varying overall and PCD layer thicknesses.

What are the benefits of using U-Series PCD?

The benefits of using U-Series PCD are it provides reliable and consistent performance at a competitive cost. It improves fabrication ease, enables higher feed rates, and offers improved wear resistance for various workpiece materials. It features multiple grades with a tungsten carbide additive to the PCD layer, which enables toolmakers to electrically discharge machine (EDM) and/or electrically discharge grind (EDG) faster. Its broad range of grades allows for flexibility in choosing the right material for any machining application.

What materials are U-Series PCD used on?

U-Series PCD is used on tools within woodworking, stone machining, and other nonferrous and nonmetallic materials in various applications. It maximizes tool life and performance while remaining cost-effective for machining wood, stone, concrete, acrylics, and other difficult-to-machine materials.
