How to Increase Hybrid Grinding Wheels Lifespan

Toolmakers are shifting to hybrid grinding wheels over standard polyamide options due to their ability to deliver up to 10 times greater grinding performance, enabling faster material removal, superior surface finishes, and shorter cycle times.

Maximizing Hybrid Grinding Wheel Performance

As industries adopt harder, more complex materials like advanced ceramics and superalloys, toolmakers must develop grinding tools that meet these challenges without sacrificing quality or speed. Hyperion set out to identify the optimal material solution to maximize hybrid grinding wheel performance.

Leveraging Unique Coated Abrasives

Hyperion explored advanced abrasive solutions to meet the demands of challenging substrates like tungsten carbide. Hyperion hypothesized that copper- and silver-coated abrasives could improve grit retention, thermal management, and structural integrity in hybrid grinding wheels.

In a comprehensive evaluation of tungsten carbide flute grinding, Hyperion tested its RVG-D and RVG-AG abrasives on a hybrid grinding wheel. Hyperion discovered its coated abrasives extended wheel life by 3 times more and significantly boosted output compared to standard hybrid grinding wheels.

Explore how RVG-D and RVG-AG can help toolmakers improve grinding quality, extend tool life, and streamline operations in demanding applications.
