BZN® Compacts

Complete line of high-quality polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) products for machining hardened and alloy steel and iron materials.

BZN® Compacts are a complete line of high-quality polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) products for machining hardened ferrous materials. This product line features full round blanks and cut tips, specialty blanks, and versatile grades designed to increase tool life, generate consistent surface finishes, and provide dimensional control.

BZN Compacts consist of fine particles of the highest quality of Borazon® CBN, sintered and integrally bonded to a cemented tungsten carbide substrate. The carbide substrate provides excellent mechanical support to the PCBN abrasive layer and allows for easy braze attachment to fabricate finished tools.

Hyperion Materials & Technologies offers BZN Compacts in full-round tool blanks and semi-inserts, specialty grades such as M6500 and 7300S, and versatile grades such as V-Series and VS-Series. All offerings are available in various shapes, sizes, and grades for fabrication into finished high-performance tools.

BZN Compacts Applications

BZN Compacts is used to machine materials such as pearlitic gray cast irons, nickel and chromium alloys, hardened steel, powder metal irons, and hard-facing alloys and superalloys. These tools and blanks are used for turning and milling tools that are utilized within automotive, aerospace, wire drawing, general industrial, and more. These PCBN blanks are also fantastic for continuous to interrupted cuts, gears, powder metal applications, ductile iron, high-speed continuous turning, and CV joint applications.

BZN Compacts Benefits

In a typical machining application, tool cost is a relatively small percentage of the total production cost. The full potential and value of BZN Compacts tools over competitive and conventional tooling is evident by gains in productivity and cost savings in the total manufacturing operation. BZN Compacts achieve this by providing higher material removal rates, decreased cycle times, higher production output, faster machining parameters, improved workpiece quality, excellent dimensional control, high abrasion and wear resistance, excellent edge quality and retention, and superior impact strength.
