Versirion® & Versimax®

Revolutionary silicon carbide and PCD composite materials exhibit excellent wear resistance, mechanical strength, and thermal stability in the drawing and forming of ferrous and non-ferrous materials.

Versirion and Versimax are revolutionary diamond composite materials created from a state-of-the-art high-pressure high-temperature process. They are designed for drawing and compacting applications of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The diamond composite material offers exceptional wear resistance, superior mechanical strength, and phenomenal thermal stability for various ferrous and non-ferrous materials.

Versirion and Versimax diamond composite materials exhibit superior corrosion and wear resistance within high-temperature operations. The materials' high-strength attributes are similar to cobalt-sintered PCD but have superior thermal stability. Both composite materials are used as die blank grades within wire drawing. The die blank grades are thermally stable up to 1,400°C, creating less risk of failures during the wire drawing process.

Hyperion Materials & Technologies provides Versirion and Versimax in self-supported wire die blanks without carbide support rings. Both grades are available in custom sizes and shapes and are prepared to be customized to meet customer specifications. Hyperion provides simpler shapes, such as cylinders, rectangular, or triangular prisms, and complicated geometries, such as conical shapes, hollow cylinders, negative features, and more. Versimax can also be attached to tungsten carbide or steel by furnace brazing, and tools can be produced by press fitting, heat shrink fitting, adhesive bonding, or mechanical fixturing.

Versirion and Versimax Applications

Hyperion's Versimax and Versirion diamond composite materials offer unique solutions for drawing and compacting applications for various ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Blanks made of these materials can be used for drawing, bunching, compacting, stranding, extruding, and a variety of wear applications for different materials like low carbon steel, tire cords, aluminum, stainless steel, and copper. Versirion and Versimax can also be used in other applications, such as high-pressure high-temperature tools for diamond synthesis, geothermal studies, and other forming processes.

Versirion and Versimax Benefits

Versirion and Versimax offer several advantages when used in ferrous and non-ferrous applications. They offer superior thermal stability compared to PCD die blanks. They provide a significantly reduced coefficient of thermal expansion and are electrically conductive, allowing flexibility in cutting various geometries. Versirion and Versimax can be cut to the near-net-shape geometry, requiring minimal finishing processes. Its wear resistance is comparable to that of PCD, and its corrosion resistance is slightly better than that of PCD.

Frequently Asked Questions about Versirion and Versimax

What is Versirion and Versimax diamond composite material?

Versirion and Versimax are revolutionary diamond composite materials that offer superior wear resistance and thermal stability for drawing and compacting applications for various ferrous and non-ferrous materials.

In what sizes can Versirion and Versimax be offered?

Versirion and Versimax diamond composite materials are offered in die blanks and self-supported die blanks, and they do not have carbide support rings. They are both available in a diameter of 35 mm and a height of 35 mm. However, they can be customized and prepared for customer-specific sizes and shapes. These diamond composite materials are provided in simple shapes such as cylinders, rectangular or triangular prisms, and complicated shapes, including conical, hollow cylinders, negative features, etc. Versimax can be attached to tungsten carbide or steel by furnace brazing, and the tools can be produced by press fitting, heat shrink fitting, adhesive bonding, or mechanical fixturing.

What applications are Versirion and Versimax diamond composite materials used for?

Versirion and Versimax diamond composite materials are used in drawing, compacting, and forming applications involving ferrous and non-ferrous materials such as low-carbon steel, tire cords, aluminum wires, stainless steel, and copper wire.

What benefits do Versirion and Versimax offer die manufacturers?

Versirion and Versimax diamond composite materials provide several benefits when used in wire dies, with a key benefit being that they offer superior thermal stability, up to 1,400°C, which can significantly reduce the coefficient of thermal expansion in dies. It is electrically conductive and provides more flexibility in cutting various geometries, such as near-net-shape geometry of customers' specifications. Versirion and Versimax are also available in larger sizes of unsupported PCD, allowing it to be easily brazed or shrink-fitted into the casing. Lastly, it provides excellent wear and corrosion resistance, slightly better than those of PCD.

Can Versimax and Versirion die blanks be brazed like PCD?

Versimax and Versirion die blanks can be brazed like PCD. They can be hot-cased and cold-cased into the case.

Why would you use Versirion and Versimax materials instead of PCD?

Versirion and Versimax diamond composite material is best used in high-temperature, high-pressure applications where corrosion is heavily involved, compared to PCD. It is available in larger sizes than PCD, with a diameter of 35 mm and a height of 35 mm. With their size differentiation and unique thermally conductive and corrosion resistance properties, Versirion and Versimax are great substitutes for PCD.
